  • This is a selection of the MODIS 8 day mean level 3 mapped 8 day mean ocean products at the two highest resolutions available. It spans from July 2002 onwards and will be augmented by newer data from time to time. The source of the data is NASA at the above reference. This data has been reformatted into 3 dimensional, longitude by latitude by time netcdf files for use by researchers in CSIRO. Initially the following products have been selected: chlorophyll, extinction coefficient (K490) and sea surface temperature. The NASA data are also available in various resolutions. The highest two resolution levels have been chosen, with nominal pixel size of 4 and 9 kilometres. A description of the processing carried out by NASA is at http://oceancolor.gsfc.nasa.gov/DOCS/modis_processing_overview.pdf

  • This record contains data collected on the Lady Basten (AIMS cruise code LB2401/99) between 11 and 18 October 1999 from waters in the Great Barrier Reef near Rib Reef, Pandora Reef and Orpheus Island. The data can be used for Ocean Colour sensor validation. Parameters measured are the concentration of chlorophyll and carotenoid pigments and the absorption coefficient for dissolved (CDOM), particulate and detrital or non-algal components of the water column.

  • This record contains data collected on the charter vessel RV Explorer between 16 and 18 January 2008 from the Derwent River, Tasmania. The data can be used for Ocean Colour sensor validation. Parameters measured are the concentration of chlorophyll and carotenoid pigments and retrieved chlorophyll a estimate, the absorption coefficient for dissolved (CDOM) particulate (ap) and detrital or non-algal (ad) components of the water column; 14 stations were sampled. The data was used primarily to validate ocean colour sensors MERIS, MODIS and SeaWIFs. Samples were collected and analysed for pigments, total suspended solids (TSS) and absorption coefficient, dissolved and particulate. CLW deployed instruments RAMSES, ac-9, Hydroscat and Hydrorad.

  • This record contains data collected on the charter vessel FV Challenger between 21 and 30 May 2007 from Tasmanian coastal waters. The data can be used for Ocean Colour sensor validation. Parameters measured are the concentration of chlorophyll and carotenoid pigments and retrieved chlorophyll a estimate, the absorption coefficient for dissolved (CDOM) particulate (ap) and detrital or non-algal (ad) components of the water column; 28 stations were sampled.

  • This record contains data generated from samples collected on the fishing vessel Odalisque in Storm Bay, Tasmania, between November 9 2009 and 18 July 2011. The data were collected as part of the FRDC project 2009/067. The data can be used for Ocean Colour sensor validation. Parameters measured are the concentration of chlorophyll and carotenoid pigments, total suspended solids, and absorption coefficients.

  • This record contains data generated from samples collected annually in Gladstone Harbour, from 2012-2014. These samples were taken as part of the GISERA marine environmental research program. The data can be used for Ocean Colour sensor validation. Parameters measured are the concentration of chlorophyll and carotenoid pigments. Between 9 and 42 stations were sampled each year.

  • This record contains data collected from 9 stations on the Franklin cruise FR05/95. The data were collected to determine the chlorophyll a concentration in waters where ther had been a recent mass mortality of pilchards. The data can be used for Ocean Colour sensor validation. Chlorophyll a (HPLC)concentration was the only parameter measured.

  • This record contains data collected on the charter vessel Rum Rambler between 04 and 12 September 2003. The data can be used for Ocean Colour sensor validation. Parameters measured are the concentration of chlorophyll and carotenoid pigments and retrieved chlorophyll a estimate, the absorption coefficient for dissolved (aCDOM) particulate (a/p) and detrital or non-algal (a/d) components of the water column. 26 stations were sampled. The data was used primarily to validate ocean colour sensors MERIS, MODIS and SeaWIFs and the SST sensor AATSR. Samples were collected and analysed for pigments, total suspended solids (TSS) and dissolved and particulate absorption coefficients. CLW deployed instruments RAMSES, ac-9, Hydroscat and Hydrorad.

  • This record contains data collected on the charter vessel Rum Rambler between 4 and 9 February 2005 in the Fitzroy River Estuary. 20 stations were sampled.

  • This record contains data collected from 7 trips on the FV Sniper between 16 Aug 1999 and 8 Jan 2001. 88 samples were collected during these trips. The data can be used for Ocean Colour sensor validation. Parameters measured are the concentration of chlorophyll and carotenoid pigments.
